Explore the North Shore!

Whitecaps Resort is an ideal location to begin your explorations of Minnesota’s Tip of the Arrowhead. Our convenient location makes it easy to plan day trips ranging from shopping excursions to wilderness adventures.

Located 13 miles east of Grand Marais, Minnesota, Whitecaps is within walking distance of the Brule (Arrowhead) River, Judge C.R. Magney State Park, and the historic Naniboujou Lodge. Hike the Superior Hiking Trail or go fishing in the many lakes and trout streams along the Arrowhead Trail and Gunflint Trail. Paddle a canoe in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Sea kayak on Lake Superior to the nearby Marr Islands and Paradise Beach. Launch a boat at Horseshoe Bay in Hovland. Drive the back roads to see moose, black bear, deer, and other wildlife. Winter outdoor activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Explore the nearby Devil Track canyon, accessible only in winter! The famous Lutsen Mountains ski area is only 45 minutes away.

Grand Marais—Superior Culture

Quaint shops, art galleries, and eclectic restaurants set apart Grand Marais, Minnesota as a favorite destination for North Shore travelers. Nestled on picturesque Grand Marais Harbor, the village is home to the North House Folk School, the Johnson Heritage Post, the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, and the Grand Marais Playhouse. Boat launching and limited marina facilities are available, as well as Lake Superior fishing charters. Festivals occur throughout the summer, culminating in the Fisherman’s Picnic the first weekend in August.

Grand Portage—Casino gaming and more.

The Grand Portage Lodge and Casino is the only gaming facility on Minnesota’s North Shore. The Grand Portage National Monument commemorates a historic fur trade route. Native crafts are available at the Grand Portage Trading Post. Popular summer events include Rendevous Days and Pow Wow on the second weekend in August and the Bayou Boogie on Labor Day Weekend.

Isle Royale National Park

Visit Isle Royale National Park via boats departing from Grand Portage. Accessible only by water, scenic Isle Royale is world famed for biological studies of its moose and gray wolf populations.
